Girls only Boarding School and Girls Youth Program

Beautiful campus with gazebo

Peacefully located in the western upstate or "the Piedmont", of South Carolina is Magnolia Christian School for Girls. It is very near Erskine College and about an hour from Augusta Georgia. Our beautiful campus at Magnolia Christian is a wonderful option for families in need. The campus is nestled on 500 acres and provides some good old southern hospitality, far away from the destructive influences of friends, peers or social structures. We are not exactly a Boot Camp or a Wilderness Camp, but a fully functioning Educational Boarding School for girls only, who are not making it in their own customary home setting, school, or community. Magnolia Christian runs a girls only Youth Program similar to a Military or Reform School, yet we are not a military school. We simply provide a world class environment that helps facilitate change needed in the girls lives that we work with on a daily basis.

Helping Troubled Teens

Recent studies* have confirmed the long held belief that the best opportunity to help a young woman develop properly into a suitably respectful young lady is through a girls only Youth Program or same-sex Girls Boarding School. Magnolia Christian is a non-denominational Girls only educational boarding school, designed to help struggling young women and their families. Our purpose is to facilitate positive change that is long-term, not just a short-term artificial high that can be found in some Wilderness Camps, Boot Camps or other short term process programs. Magnolia Christian restores self respect and will re-establish the values needed to create a new start in the lives of the Girls in our care. By utilizing Judeo-Christian values, and by implementing a highly structured daily schedule similar to military school regimentation, we empower these young ladies to begin restoring self discipline and personal integrity. This soon facilitates further time honored values in their lives as well. Magnolia Christian begins the miracle of change without the demeaning disrespect found in some boot camp, military schools or wilderness programs. We powerfully enable these young ladies to become motivated and driven by helping them though the process of earning their own self respect and self-worth back into their lives. At Magnolia Christian, self respect is earned and therefore permanente in its value. Our Girls Only Christian Program also has a nationally accredited academic program, positive peer culture mentoring, emotional-growth & personal development program, physical exercise programs, 24 hour staff supervision, and a time proven advancement program. Our students learn to leave behind their former self limiting & destructive behaviors and begin to create a new start for themselves.

We encourage you to schedule a visit, walk the boarding school grounds, speak with our students and staff and see how Magnolia Christian can offer your family the change you may be seeking. The school is on a working farm where the students are further given service opportunities and are taught the value of old fashioned hard work. Magnolia Christian youth program process has a 5 year outcome study finding that if a young lady graduates the process, they have a 92% non relapse rate. Which means, 92% of graduates are able to return home to their customary environment with no further need of treatment direction. 85% of these students go on to College after high school graduation.

*In June 2005, researchers at Cambridge University released results of a four-year study of gender differences in education. The researchers investigated hundreds of different schools, representing a wide variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, seeking to identify strategies which improved performance of both girls and boys while narrowing the gender gap between girls and boys. What makes this study really unique is that the researchers did not merely observe and document what they found; they then intervened, and attempted to graft those strategies onto other, less successful schools. A total of 50 schools were involved either as "originator schools" (schools which had successfully improved student performance while narrowing the gender gap) or "partner schools" (less successful schools onto which the "originator" strategies were grafted). One of those strategies was single-sex education. These researchers found that the single-sex classroom format was remarkably effective at boosting boys' performance particularly in English and foreign languages, as well as improving girls' performance in math and science.

Researchers at Stetson University in Florida have completed a three-year pilot project comparing single-sex classrooms with coed classrooms at Woodward Avenue Elementary School, a nearby neighborhood public school. For example, students in the 4th grade at Woodward were assigned either to single-sex or coed classrooms. All relevant parameters were matched: the class sizes were all the same, the demographics were the same, all teachers had the same training in what works and what doesn't work, etc. On the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test), here were the results: Percentage of students scoring proficient on the FCAT

Girls in coed classes: 49% scored proficient

Girls in single-sex classes: 75% scored proficient

Remember, these students were all learning the same curriculum in the same school. And, this school "mainstreams" students who are learning-disabled, or who have ADHD etc. Many of those boys who scored proficient in the all-boys classes had previously been labeled "ADHD" or "ESE" in coed classes.
